and December 9th ,2018 12-9 PM.
Indore in the month of December will witness a unique festival of pottery organised by Studio Akira.
Studio Akira isn’t just a destination for pottery artists showcasing their work, but is a long journey that began with suchitra dhanani’s passion for pottery and ceramics.
Suchitra ,the founder who herself is the face of the brand “SAYAJI”, which is a pioneer in hospitality found her solace as a potter and ceramic artist . Her journey started with attending workshop of potters & gaining in-depth knowledge and techniques by books. Her husband Mr Sajid Dhanani encouraged her further ,as she bought all the essentials of a studio to set-up her own studio.
Later in the course of her creative journey she met Mudita bhandari, who gave her the required push and encouraged her to take the medium seriously as a ceramic artist. The studio got it’s name and identity on the encouragement of her friends Mudita & Pankaj, who were also ceramic artists from Indore.
Suchitra believes Clay has immense possibilities,is dynamic and playable ,which falls true to the studio’s name- Akira, which literally means “gentle strength.”
As time passed by ,she had a huge circle who had same interest as her in pottery. She then thought of bringing all these people together at one place.Hence, Studio Akira became a platform where they met, discussed about the art, explored and showcased their work. Also work-shops on different techniques & surface decoration were regularly conducted here.
Maati Festival in 2016 was one such attempt to pool the artists ,exhibit their works and bring in potential buyers. Probably this was the first of its own kind of event in Indore.
Suchitra says Maati festival is an effort to bridge the gap between the artists & the people of Indore. Till now three such events have been organized successfully in 2016 & 2017. The response prompted her to make it a yearly event. This year in maati festival’s 3rd edition ,one more dimension is amalgamated to the festival ,where painters Rajesh Sharma & Pankaj Agrawal are exhibiting their paintings during the festival. The endeavor is to feature paintings and other art forms in the coming years .
We acknowledge and appreciate suchitra’s efforts towards encouraging the art form of pottery in the city and letting the city of Indore witness this amalgamation of art, dedication and creativity.
See them at maati festival 8th december 4-9 PM and 9th december 12-9 PM.
